Grandpa Hernandez

This weekend was a weekend full of many emotions for our family. Grandpa Hernandez passed away this week, so we traveled up to Rupert, ID this weekend to attend his funeral services. I just wanted to make a post dedicated to this wonderful man. Grandpa came over from Mexico. After he moved to America, the L.D.S. missionaries found him and his wonderful wife. They were baptized into the church, and were completely dedicated to serving the lord. At his funeral services, the missionary who baptized him spoke. I just want you to take a second and imagine this. Imagine this missionary standing at the podium overlooking an entire congregation filled with 9 children, their spouses, 44 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, that are now an enternal family because of one missionary and a man and woman who knew in their heart the teaching of the L.D.S. church were true. It must have been overwhelming for this missionary to comprehend how much work he really has done. Grandpa was amazing and we will miss him a lot. Everardo Ramos Hernandez, age 78, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He passed away peacefully, Sunday Feb. 17, 2008, in Boise, surrounded by his family.Everardo was born Dec. 8, 1929, in San Pasqual, Zacatecas, Mexico to Esteban and Eloisa Ramos Hernandez. He attended schools in Mexico before emigrating to the United States in 1947, where he met his beloved wife, Dominga Arenivas in Pecos, Texas. The marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Seeking a better life for his family, they migrated to northern Utah and eventually settled in Rupert. Upon arriving in Idaho, he obtained work with Larry Smith Farms. Everardo then secured a position with Ore-Ida Foods, Inc. He retired as a dedicated employee of 33 years.Everardo was extremely devoted to his family. The principles of hard work, education, church service and a testimony of Jesus Christ were all instilled in the hearts of his family. They were of upmost importance to him.He was a long standing, active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held various church callings including, Spanish Branch President, High Councilman, dedicated Home Teacher, Temple Worker in the Logan LDS Temple, and at the time of his death he was serving as a Patriarch. Everardo and Dominga also served together as missionaries in the McAllen, Texas Mission where they met many life-long friends. This was one of the highlights of their church service.He had a passion for life. He loved gardening, reading, traveling and spending time with family both in Mexico and in the United States.

He is survived by his wife Dominga of 56 years. His children Victor (Maria Elena) Rivera, Durango, Mexico; Eloisa (Robert) Dills, Englewood, Tenn.; Jose (Shannon) Hernandez, Smithfield, Utah; Hilda (Charles) Wilson, Meridian; Esteban (Gloria) Hernandez, Burley; David (Juli) Hernandez, Meridian; Margarita (Daniel) Jensen, Heyburn; Yolanda (Curtis) Tyrrell, Riverton, Utah; and Abel (Lisa) Hernandez, Jerome; 45 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; a brother Jose Hernandez, Sobrete, Mexico and sisters, Lucita Hernandez, Gomez, Mexico and Jovita Robarte, Glendale, Calif.He was preceded in death by his parents Esteban and Eloisa Hernandez, brothers Natividad and Esteban, sisters Julia and Antonia, a son Everardo Hernandez Jr., daughter-in-law Holly Hernandez, grandson Benjamin Hernandez, and a great granddaughter Riley Ann Jones.Funeral services will be held at the Rupert West LDS Stake Center at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008. A viewing will be held Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hansen Mortuary, 710 Sixth St., Rupert, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at the Rupert Cemetery.In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Perpetual Education Fund.
